procedural writing

League is a contact sport and you need to know the basics like how to tackle, pass, run and kick if you are a kicker if you want to play. the most important thing to learn in league is to tackle because our coach always says if they can’t get through. So if someone was running at you go low if he is way bigger than you but if he is the same size go for the waist. but if there are two people one go up high and one go low. Next, you need to learn how to pass so there are lines on the ball and you need to put one finger on all of the lines and pass. The next one is running so what you do is raise one leg and then extend it then put it on the ground.

This week we have been doing procedural writing. procedural writing is a step by step peace of writing.

my last run

my last ran in taiao. What I have learned for the run is never take the easy way out like the day after cross country we did our run. Also, my mental grit waking up every day thinking that I might do a 2.8 run today. knowing that I am getting fitter by my graph and knowing that I'm fitter than most NewZealanders. saying yes to do the run every day and not bring a note so I don't have to it. I think that me doing a run every day improves my school work. At the start, I thought that this was a waste of time but now I have seen the imprint in my school work and all my sports and now I know that it is not a waste of time. I have run 164 kilometer

Social Studys Poll Tax

My opinion on the Poll Tax: It’s dumb to judge people on their race but all the other people got in for free they just targeted the Chinese.

Why was it targeting Chinese: Because they’re racist.

What is a poll tax? Its charging people to come into the country based on who they are. For example a person from China would be charged but people from Europe would not be charged.

Did they ever get paid back: Yes you can apply and get funding for community projects like the Kumara chinese gardens.

What was the yellow peril: The Yellow Peril is a racist colour-metaphor. Basically saying the Chinese were bad and you shouldn't let them in to your country.

Social Studies the Vietnam war

the vietnam war
Capitalism Communism

What happen in the vietnam war the north wanted sped Communism to the south but the south
didn't want Communism and the north and south went to war. And the usa didn't want
Communism to spread into usa. The americans got ambushed by agent orange.

The peace movement
So every day in America they said on tv all the people that have died in
One day, and people were sick of it so they started to protest and that was a bad
I dear because on may the 4 1970 the ohio post gared started to shoot the protesters
and killed 4 students on may the 9th 1970 100 thousand people were protesting outside
the White house but then they started shooting again and killed 2 people so the government
killed people for disagreeing with them   .

What was new Zealand's involvement in the vietnam war.
The reason New Zealand went to the vietnam war is because of the anzus treaty
and we wanted to stay friends with america and that was the only war that were not with
the queen

Mining on conservation land should be banned!

The only reason the government might ban mining on
conservation land is because they are mining our native
bush and if we don't stop mining on conservation land there
will be no land for our native wildlife because most of our land will
be holes. Mining is dirty because it is just a big gravel hole
and all these big metal machines and smoke everywhere so what would you
rather lots of smoke and metal or lots of bush and trees. Some of the mining site
are on conservation land but some aren't so we are protecting all our bush
and there are still some mine for the miners

If we don't stop mining on conservation land it will affect our tourism
because we will have not have much bush and Glaser's but if we don't
stop all the smoke that we are producing it will kill the Glaser's and that is
one of new Zealand biggest tourism spots. Even if we are making a lot of
money for mining we will still be losing money for no tourism.

(by the way, I do not believe this did I convince you)

rafting reflection

When I jumped on the raft, we started floating down the river and then I saw the first bit of rapids and I was like here we go. When we hit the rapids there was a massive wave and all the water went on the raft and it was freezing as soon as it touched me my whole body went numb. When the water was still we had a drag race and my team won. After that, we stopped at a canyon and the water was red because of all the dead trees and stuff. When we finished that we were heading towards these massive rapids and one group went straight into a rock and our group had to go and get Mr McAulay's paddle. When we were near the end there was a massive wave and when we hit it our guide went like 1 meter in the air.

As soon as we got to the campsite, Mr McAulay made a fire and we all had to get firewood until the truck came with all our gear. When it came we all got changed and after that, we had to set up the tent but I didn't have to because I had to cook. My group had sausages and bread. When it was night time we made a big campfire and we had a concert and it was in your rafting groups. When that finished it was the best time of the night, we had marshmallows and then we went to bed. But it doesn't help that the sleeping mats are so uncomfortable and you have someone in your ear snoring.

When we got up we had to get changed into our rafting clothes and then I had to cook breakfast so they could get changed for breakfast, we had bacon. When I finished cooking we had to put down the tent and it is really hard to get it into the bag, in the end, we had to get Mr McAulay to do it. While the guides were getting ready we played octopus. When we went on the raft we went past a waterfall and they said it was a waterfall of youth and if you put your head in the waterfall it makes you look young, well that's what they said. At one rapid we had to stop and the guides had to see if it was safe. It was and it was so fun. When we got to the end we had to do this competition where you had to float down the rapids on our backs and swim to shore and get on your raft, once all your team has made it your group had to make it down to the end with no guide  and we were coming first but then the other group spun us so we spun them back but then the group in last came up the side and won. Then we had to push the raft up stream and it was hard.

Overall I really enjoyed it.

My Opinion Piece

Watching the news lately, I was wondering: why Greymouth is never  on the news and Auckland always is?

I thought to myself why are the news reporters not putting us on the news. We have plenty of stuff  happening, just recently we had the wild food festival and they chose to put Auckland housing crisis on the front page why do they this?

I don't think it is fair, because everyone on  social media puts all the bad stuff about Greymouth and in Auckland  all the good stuff gets put on. The West Coast have some of the best scenery and tourist attractions in New Zealand. But the media only seem to cover the bad stuff about the West Coast

My solution is to get someone to film the big events around the West Coast and send them to the big news companies, also you could get people to share this news on social media with people all around the world. Every week get someone to make up a news programme that shows everything that has happened over the last week and show what is coming up in the next week, and share this on social media.

In conclusion we have to make a big effort to make sure a lot of west Coast news is available for the people that want to see it.

Cave stream

The thing that really amazed me was that the rock on the sides of the cave dead things. When my feet and body touch the freezing cold water My whole body went fully num. When we stop and turned off all our lights and we were in pitch black, it made me feel like how it was when there was no light. Another cool thing about the cave was it started off just being a little hole but the water cut it out into the shape it is now.

The hardest bit for me was getting up the waterfalls. The coolest part was being able to go through the little side bits of the cave, there was a really cool one where you climb up a side cave and you are up top and you can see people walking through the cave. In the first part of the cave, the water was up on my neck and that was that first and the first part the water was freezing but at the end, I was jumping in the water. The scariest bit was getting out of the cave because you had to climb and then pull yourself across and the edge of the cliff was right there.
